Pre-Canon

As the first subject, Black was the first successful clone of a human. In any other situation, they would've been a marvel of science. In spite of that, they were deemed a failure for their purposes of creation. With a black lapis that couldn't pollute or even purify, it was useless for research. While they were better at combat, their sense of justice often conflicted with the training they received to be a soldier. They could never bring themself to hurt innocent people.

As time went on, more subjects were created. Ones who also couldn't meet the lofty expectations of their creators. Black quickly grew protective over the other kids at the labs. To the annoyance of the scientists, he became rebellious as a result. The final of these subjects would be Jade, the one success. Despite how differently they were viewed by staff, the two were inseparable. Once they figured out what families were, they declared themselves siblings. They swore to one day escape the labs and see the world together.

One day, Black eavesdropped on an argument between Weiss and Jadeite. As he listened it, they realized it was about what staff was going to do with him. Jadeite had referred to it as "burying them in darkness." The euphemism didn't fly over his head, especially given Weiss's reaction to it. He ran off, the implications of it all weighing heavily on him. He refused to tell the rest of the kids, even if Jade could tell something was wrong. All he could do was dread tomorrow.

And yet, he survived it.

Black was unconscious for the lab breakout, due to an interrupted experiment. They awoke in an unfamiliar bedroom, with Weiss fighting off sleep in the corner. They were free from now on, but their sibling got lost in the chaos and was still with the rest of the staff. That piece of news felt like a punch in the gut. As the doctor had explained what happened, they struggled to process it all. But, one thing was clear to them: Weiss cared about them and the rest of the kids. Even though they didn't fully trust him yet, they asked to stay with him. Even though the doctor was their genetic source, they only became a family that day.

Shortly after, he met the person who came up with the breakout in the first place. Elenoa had the honor of being the first adult Black met who wasn't from the labs. While all of Weiss's friends were nice to them, she was definitely their favorite. They look up to her a lot, aspiring to be like her one day. Someone brave and kind, who fights for what they believe in.

For around two months, they lived as peacefully as they could have. It was a period of adjustment for Black. Being treated like an actual person wasn't something they were used to. Yet, the people around them kept being kind to them. They slowly grew more used to the outside world, experiencing all they missed. Getting to sleep in, having a warm cup of hot chocolate, the little joys of life. There was a sense of bittersweetness to it all, but it was nice.

Sunny Park Era

That peace came to a harsh end with a bullet through the living room window. It became clear: The organization needed to be stopped. With the remaining staff that opposed, the revolution was born. Black demanded to join, wanting use his combat experience for good. Even though the adults did not want him there, he quickly became the face of the revolution. With a natural gift for revving up the crowd, his passion for it was as clear as day. The rest of the people involved with the revolution tend to be protective over him.

Black's insistence on joining the battlefield wasn't just due to their sense of justice. It had originally stemmed from their own survivor's guilt as well. If their life wasn't on the line, then maybe Jade could've escaped instead. While they hid it from Weiss and Elenoa, their self-blame festered. Their initial recklessness in battle was a result of this. Ultimately, it led to a battle that severely injured them. While they escaped with their life, seeing how the others reacted was a wake up call. It forced them to realize that despite being a "failure" in their own eyes, people loved and cared about them.

Black spent their recovery period in Sunny Park, somewhere far away from the battlefield. But, it wasn't far from their past. The ruins of a planned research institute stood there, abandoned after the animals of the park attacked the building. Black would frequent the area, trying to process their past. However, he was not the only person trespassing on abandoned property. He would befriend the other people who would frequent the area, Jack and Nia. A good chunk of their time in the park was spent hanging out with them and the stray cats.

Lapistoria Era

The events of Lapistoria had begun not long after they were able to fight again. Lapis pollution was something they were very familiar with. With the group's history, the culprit seemed so obvious. They just had to find Jadeite's location. After a confrontation with Fuga, the principal was apprehended and it seemingly all came to a close.

And yet, the pollution started back up. With the assistance of the lapis purifier, the revolutionaries went back to their research. Meeting in the school's church, they gathered what info they had. Eventually, the true culprit would reveal itself by causing Retsu's rampage. As Black entered the scene, they noticed their friend and another kid there.

Someone who seemed so... familiar.

Any time they could've had to put two and two together was cut short by being thrown right back into the labs. The familiar boy treated them coldly. A fellow victim. In their panic and anger, the connection that could have been made slipped their mind. When given the chance to help stop it, they jumped on it. However, once the boy was separated from his lapis, he started acting and even looking like himself again. Finally, everything clicked into place for Black.

By some miracle, Jade had survived the years he spent alone. As the truth unraveled, it became so clear. In an odd way, knowing their lapis was used to save him gave them a sense of closure. If they couldn't save him back then, they could save him now. They watched over him for the rest of the lab events, waiting for a chance for it to be just them.

Once Black awoke in the Pop'n World, they wasted little time before running off to find Jade. Talking with everyone else could come later, they had to find him before anyone else could. With a pointer from MZD, they found him sitting under a tree, a fair distance away from everyone else. Without thinking, they called out his name. Once they made eye contact, the shock and guilt on his face was as clear as day. They knelt down next to him and did what they wanted to do for so long.

After the years apart, Black finally got to hug his brother again. While they tried to keep a strong face, their hands kept shaking. Jade, on the other hand, couldn't hold back anymore. He broke down sobbing, apologizing for everything. Despite the years apart and despite the events that transpired, they went back to being siblings. At long last, it was finally over.

Post-Canon

MZD had discovered them in the middle of their catching up. After bringing them back, they realized Jadeite was conspiciously absent. While they were told he just lost custody over his son and got arrested, Black suspected something more was at play. Regardless, the question at hand was brought up: Where will Jade go?

When given the choice, it was a no brainer for the child. He got adopted into the revolutionaries household, making him and Black brothers officially. They could finally keep their promise of exploring the world together. Even though times grew more peaceful, the spirit of revolution never fades.
